Conventionally,
caulk tubes have a rigid nozzle and the caulk begins skinning
immediately once applied. A secondary tool is used and multiple passes may be required to finish the bead. Alternatively, there are some
commercially available pre-filled tubes that have an applicator tip that
is often too large and rigid and the tubes contain a specific caulk.
Either of these methods are difficult to tool when working on tight fine
profiles and even the smallest nozzle opening on a caulk tube is too
large for filling small gaps and cracks.

Note: Even when capped, moisture cured caulks and sealants such as most silicones and urethanes continue to cure once opened. Capping slows the cure but will not prevent it.
